The 411
First off, I want to say how grateful I am to our regular listeners. You have offered up some great advice and very amusing voice mails and e-mails. By listening to our show, you've made us more that just a geek talking to his wife, you've made us podcasters.
Here's the disappointing news... We are no longer going to be recording every week. We are going to be recording every other week instead. This was not a joint decision. This was a decision made by me, and Kevin is very disappointed. In my defense, I have to say I'm a little disappointed myself. If you can remember back to our first episode, the main reason we wanted to start a podcast was to keep out of town family and friends up to date on what's going on with us. Well, that hasn't actually worked out like we thought. We have a few family members that listen every week, but the people we were really hoping to reach, the ones we don't talk to on a regular basis, just don't listen. I took for granted how my iPod made listening to podcasts so easy, and didn't take in to account how difficult it would be for the friends and family member who don't have one. It's one thing to listen while you're working out or while you're driving to and from work, but to expect them to sit down at their computers and do nothing but listen to us chatter on for an hour is a lot to ask. So, while it isn't exactly their fault, I'm still disappointed they're not listening.
Another reason I've come to this decision is because of the amount of time and effort it takes to produce 1 show. It started out extremely exciting and full of hope. I didn't mind sitting at my computer for hours putting together my show notes. I honestly thought that the more I did it the more effortless it would become. I was hoping that I would eventually be able to do away with bulleted lists and be able to wing it and have it come out effortless. Now that I've been doing it for a while, I don't see myself being able to pull that off, so I'll just leave that to Dawn and Drew.
So with all of the regular segments, having to dig up stuff from my boring, stay at home, life to talk about, and now having to take the dogs to and from my mom's house for the hour, it's just gotten to be too much for the few family members and listeners that we have. I am so grateful for you all though, and I want to assure you that we are not going to pod-fade. In fact, Kevin and I are in the process of trying to come to a compromise. We're thinking of recording a short show on the in between weeks with no segments and short enough that we don't have to take the dogs to my mom's house. We're still in the preliminary stages of negotiation though, so don't hold your breath. We'll keep you updated with announcements on our website, and feel free to call us at 206-203-5613 with comments or concerns.
